bathroom curtains

By Stef | July 13, 2007

I am still looking for a picture of the unwashed upholstery fabric, so “upholstery part II” will have to wait until I can find the photo.   In the meantime, I offer you this (rather dark) image of bathroom curtains.

 Curtains

The curtains were woven on a 24 harness loom with an unmercerized cotton warp and tencel weft.  I believe that I used a pattern from the PCW Fiberworks “Thrilling Twills” cd.  I may have modified the pattern somewhat, but I can’t really remember.

Here’s a closer look…
Curtains, Close View

I was very disappointed when the curtains first came off the loom.  They were very dingy looking and didn’t look very nice in the bathroom.  I mixed up a bleach solution and immersed both panels to brighten the color.*  The bathrooms in my house are pretty awful, so it’s nice to have a bit of handwoven fabric to brighten the space.
*BTW, this really isn’t the recommended treatment for fabric (bleach can be quite harsh). I was actually pretty lucky that the curtains didn’t dissolve.

I love the picture - particularly the darkened edges. The effect is great and it looks like it was taken for the website!
